Making and release
Pratchett completed the novel in the summer of 2014.[2] Pratchett's assistant Rob Wilkins stated in the afterword that Pratchett wrote the book's "pivotal scenes while he was still writing Raising Steam"[3] Wilkins also noted the book was "still, not quite finished as he would have liked when he died"[3] The United States release followed on 1 September 2015.[1]
She stated she did not intend to write more Discworld novels or give anyone else permission to do so.[4] Neil Gaiman claimed Pratchett had originally planned a different ending involving Granny Weatherwax and the cat You, but this was not verified by Pratchett's family or publishing team.[5] Penguin Random House released The Shepherd's Crown in the UK on 27 August 2015.[1][2] During early June 2015, Rhianna Pratchett, the author's daughter, stated that no further Discworld novels would follow this one.[6][4]
