Blood Slides
Dexter's trophies: a drop of each victim's blood on a microscope slide.
Blood slides are Dexter Morgan's trophies. His signature is to slice each victim's right cheek with a surgical scalpel and collect a small blood sample, which he preserves on a microscope slide. In the television series he keeps the slides from all his victims neatly organised in a wooden filing box hidden inside his air conditioner.
Lore & Background
He did not always collect them: his first trophy was a pair of his first victim's earrings. In the series he stops taking blood slides during the seventh season, mainly because a renewed secret investigation into the Bay Harbor Butcher could get him caught. In New Blood he takes a slide from his first victim in ten years but does not keep it; in Resurrection he goes back to taking a makeshift slide, and recovers his old slides from the billionaire Leon Prater, who had bought them from the FBI.
