Joe Gordon
Hall of Fame second baseman later traded to Detroit as its manager.
Joseph Lowell Gordon (February 18, 1915 – April 14, 1978), nicknamed "Flash" after the comic-book hero Flash Gordon, was an American second baseman, coach and manager who played for the New York Yankees and Cleveland Indians from 1938 to 1950; his 25 home runs as a rookie broke Charlie Gehringer's American League record for a second baseman. He later scouted for the Tigers from 1953 to 1955, and while managing Cleveland he was sent to the Tigers in exchange for their manager, Jimmy Dykes, in a rare trade of managers. He was elected to the Hall of Fame posthumously in 2009.
