Lidström was drafted 53rd overall by the Red Wings in 1989 and joined the team in 1991–92. He scored 60 points as a rookie, finishing second in Calder Trophy voting. He was named captain in 2006 after Steve Yzerman's retirement. He signed a two-year, $15.2 million contract extension in 2006. He played his entire 20-year NHL career with Detroit.
