Playing career
Cash began his footballing career in England in 1996 as a youth team player with Nottingham Forest, signing his first professional contract in December 1999 at age 17. He made his senior debut in the 2001–02 season but failed to establish himself as a first team regular. During the 2002–03 season he was loaned to Swansea City, playing five times in a month-long spell before being recalled by Forest. He remained out of the first team for the rest of that season and was restricted to reserve team appearances throughout 2003–04.
At the beginning of the following campaign he was loaned to Rochdale, where he made six starts. Forest released him in November 2004 after he had made just eight substitute appearances in all competitions over five years as a senior player. Shortly after leaving Forest, Cash joined Bristol Rovers on non-contract terms, forgoing payment for his services. His sole appearance for the club came on 3 January 2005 in an EFL League Two match against Northampton Town, when manager Ian Atkins named him as a substitute.
He replaced Jamie Forrester late in the second half but was substituted back off a little over ten minutes later, replaced by Elliott Ward. Cash reacted angrily to Atkins as he left the field and left the club shortly afterwards. He then returned to Ireland, signing for Derry City in February 2005. He moved to Sligo Rovers in August 2006, where he spent just over three years, making 74 league appearances and scoring three goals.
Post-football
During the latter stages of his career Cash began considering his post-football options. He and his friend and teammate Pat Jennings Jr. enrolled on a fitness instruction course at Dublin City University. After retiring from football in 2011, Cash worked at a gym but found the job unsatisfying due to fleeting contact with members. He and Jennings then opened their own fitness club, the Dublin Fit Club, to provide a more personalised service.
