Background
The Muskegon Lumberjacks were created when Larry Gordon purchased the Muskegon Mohawks franchise following the 1983–84 season for $1 and renamed the team after a name-the-team contest. The Lumberjacks name reflected the historical importance of the lumber industry in Muskegon.
The team played at L.C. Walker Arena, which had a capacity of 5,100, and wore black, white, and yellow uniforms. Their logo featured crossed hockey sticks behind the word 'Lumberjacks' and a portrait of a stereotypical lumberjack. The team moved to Cleveland, Ohio, in 1992 and was renamed the Cleveland Lumberjacks.
