Vybor

Where the church bells still ring over roads no one drives anymore.

Vybor is a small, unassuming village tucked into the southern reaches of the Chernarus map. Far from the industrial sprawl of Stalber or the military weight of Cherno, it is a quiet rural settlement defined by its modest cluster of residential buildings and a weathered church that anchors the community. In the pre-apocalypse world it was a place where life moved at the pace of seasons—farming, prayer, and the slow rhythm of a small-town existence.

In the post-collapse DayZ world, Vybor endures as a low-traffic waypoint. Its open fields and limited structures make it a place where survivors occasionally pause to scavenge basic supplies, rest, or simply take stock of the world. It is not a hotspot for PvP encounters, but the silence it offers is never truly safe.

Lore & Background

Before the outbreak tore through Chernarus, Vybor was the kind of place that barely registered on any map. A handful of families, a small agricultural operation, and a parish church that saw more foot traffic on feast days than on any other. The residents were farmers, a mechanic or two, shopkeepers, and the priest who kept the congregation small but devoted. There was no industry to speak of, no military garrison, no reason for outsiders to linger. Life here was measured in harvests, church services, and the long grey winters that crept in from the coast.

When the infection swept through the region, Vybor was not spared, but it was not a primary target of the initial military response either. The small population scattered, fled, or simply stopped answering their phones. The church doors were left ajar. The fields went unharvested. Within weeks the village had become a skeleton of its former self—buildings intact but hollow, roads cracked by roots and time, the few remaining vehicles rusting in driveways with their doors hanging open.

In the years that followed, Vybor became a footnote in survivor lore. Not a place to fight, not a place to build a base of consequence, but a place to breathe. Those who pass through often describe the same feeling: a strange, aching calm, as if the village is still waiting for its people to come home and lock the church doors for the evening.

Reader's Guide

Terrain: Vybor sits in the flat-to-gently-rolling southern countryside of Chernarus. The village itself is compact—perhaps a dozen structures spread across a small central square and a short main road. Surrounding it are open fields, a few scattered trees, and the occasional hedgerow. There are no significant elevation changes within the village, meaning sightlines are long and cover is sparse.

Loot profile: Expect basic civilian-tier items. The church may hold a few first-aid supplies, a candle, or a small amount of food. Residential buildings offer clothing, basic tools, a kitchen knife, maybe a flashlight or a spare battery. You will not find military-grade weapons or high-tier medical gear here. Think survivalist basics, not combat loadouts.

Danger level: Low. Zombie density in the immediate village is typically light—two to four wanderers at most. Player encounters are uncommon but not impossible, especially if you are loud. The open terrain means you will be seen from a distance.

Tactical notes: Use the church and the cluster of buildings as your only real cover. The open fields to the north and east offer no concealment. Your best escape routes are the two rural roads exiting the village—one heading north toward larger settlements, the other curving west. In winter, snow cover makes tracks visible and muffled footsteps harder to hear; in summer, the tall grass in the fields provides marginal concealment but also slows movement. Always check the church windows before entering—glass breaks loudly and carries far in the still air.
