Dance Dance Revolution Universe
A music video game for Xbox 360 with dance mat.
Dance Dance Revolution Universe, released in Europe as Dancing Stage Universe, is a music video game from Konami for the Xbox 360. It was first shown to the public on May 9, 2006, at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles.
The game includes a plastic mat that connects to the console and lies on the floor. Players score points by stepping on the mat in time with arrows that scroll upward on the screen. When started for the first time, the game opens in Basic Edition, a tutorial that offers How to Play dancing lessons and a Lesson Mode with 22 tests covering all game techniques. More experienced players can skip directly to Master Mode, which contains all standard modes: Quest, Party, Workout, Training, Quest, Xbox Live, Challenge, Edit, and Jukebox.
In the main Quest mode, players travel across the country, competing against AI opponents and earning money to unlock new songs. Party mode includes minigames for up to four players. Challenge mode sets specific goals for each song, Workout mode is designed to help players burn calories, and Edit mode lets users customize dance steps for songs and create their own tracks. The game makes heavy use of Xbox Live features, including online multiplayer, player rankings, and downloadable song packs purchased with Microsoft Points. The soundtrack includes artists such as Chris Brown, Kylie Minogue, and Depeche Mode.
More than 60 songs are available, some through downloadable content or by unlocking them in Quest mode. Default songs are included, and a Mega Pack of downloadable songs is also offered.
