Lore & Background
Tippett was hired as head coach of the Dallas Stars on May 21, 2002. He had previously spent five years with the Houston Aeros of the IHL, first as a player-assistant coach, then as an assistant coach, and finally as head coach. Under his leadership, the Aeros won the 1999 Turner Cup championship and Tippett was named IHL Coach of the Year. He then served as an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Kings from 1999 to 2002, where the Kings made the playoffs in three of those three seasons, including a first-round upset of the heavily favoured Detroit Red Wings in 2001. Tippett's tenure with the Stars ended on June 10, 2009.
