History
Kwality Ltd., a publicly traded dairy processor on the Bombay Stock Exchange, began operations in 1992 as Kwality Dairy (India) Ltd., registered in Calcutta. Three years later, in 1995, it launched production of ghee, skimmed milk powder, and other dairy items, funded by a ₹3600 crore public issue. The company changed its name to Kwality Limited in 2013. In 2014, it received the Dun & Bradstreet Corporate Award as the top Indian company in the Food & Agro processing sector.
A ₹520 crore investment from KKR India came in June 2016. By October 2019, Haldiram had bid ₹130 crore for the firm after KKR took it to bankruptcy court. On September 21, 2020, the Central Bureau of Investigation charged Kwality Limited with defrauding a group of banks of ₹1,400 crore, following a Bank of India complaint alleging the company took credit from 2010 but began defaulting in early 2018. The company sells milk under the Kwality brand in Full Cream, Toned, and Double Toned variants, and was the first in India to launch fortified flavoured milk with vitamin A and D. Its product range also includes skimmed milk powder, whole milk powder, dairy whitener, dairy mix, ice cream mix, ready-to-drink milk, and ghee.
Actor Akshay Kumar served as brand ambassador from October 2015, with a two-year reappointment confirmed in September 2017, and a TV campaign was created by McCann Health, India.
