Wendy's Milk Bar

Background

Wendy's Milk Bar, originally called Wendy's Supa Sundaes, is an Australian ice cream shop franchise with more than 200 outlets and kiosks. It started in Adelaide and is owned by Supatreats Australia, based in Baulkham Hills, Sydney. This chain has no connection to the American fast-food chain Wendy's, which had a short stint in Australia from 1982 to 1985 and returned in 2025.

The business began as a single store in Adelaide on 31 July 1979, founded by Geoff Davis and Phil Rogers. It expanded into a large franchise network across Australia and New Zealand. In 2014, Singapore's Global Food Retail Group bought the master franchise rights. Late in 2018, several New Zealand Wendy's Supa Sundaes locations broke their franchise deals and rebranded as Shake Shed & Co. The dispute arose over ice cream suppliers: the Australian corporate office wanted an Australian supplier, while the New Zealand stores preferred local ones. That year, New Zealand's High Court ordered the Shake Shed & Co. stores to close. The company entered receivership in 2020. Meanwhile, Wendy's Supa Sundaes changed its name to Wendy's Milk Bar, shifting the brand toward a classic milk bar identity.
