History
Karviná, a multi-ethnic city in Cieszyn Silesia, hosted numerous football clubs founded by different ethnic groups after World War I, including Polish, German, Czech and Jewish communities. The most prominent Polish club was Polonia Karwina, established in 1919. The club competed in the top national league during the 1996–97 and 1998–99 Czech First League seasons, being relegated each time. In the 2000–01 Czech 2.
Liga, Karviná finished 15th of 16 teams and was relegated to the Moravian–Silesian Football League. The following season, 2001–02, they finished last in the MSFL, suffering a second consecutive relegation. Playing in the Czech Fourth Division in 2002–03, the club finished last and was relegated for a third straight year. In 2003, the club merged with Jäkl Karviná and adopted the name MFK Karviná.
The 2003–04 season saw them finish fourth in the Regional Championship, but they were promoted to the Czech Fourth Division after higher-finishing teams declined promotion. They finished eighth in 2006–07 and fourth in 2007–08, then purchased the second-division license from league champions Sigma Olomouc B, entering the Czech 2. Liga in 2008. The club earned promotion to the First League after the 29th round of the 2015–16 Czech National Football League.
In May 2026, Karviná won the Czech Cup and qualified for the play-off round of the 2026–27 UEFA Europa League. On 15 June 2026, the Ethics Committee of the FAČR administratively relegated the club to the FNL due to alleged match-fixing. The club announced it would appeal, but on 28 June 2026 withdrew its appeal and left the league.
