Mayor of Thebes

Chief official of Thebes during the New Kingdom.

The Mayor of Thebes (Haty-a-en-Niut) was a key administrative office in ancient Egypt, particularly during the New Kingdom, when Thebes served as the capital. The title is attested in monuments from that period. From the 19th Dynasty onward, the mayor's jurisdiction was limited to the eastern part of the city, as a separate Mayor of West Thebes oversaw the western necropolis area.
