WWE Universal Championship
The title that united the WWE Universe.
The WWE Universal Championship is a men's professional wrestling world heavyweight championship created and promoted by the American promotion WWE. Established in 2016, it is the fourth overall men's world championship created by the company, after the WWE Championship (1963), the 2002–2013 version of the World Heavyweight Championship, and the ECW Championship (2006–2010), and fifth overall used by the company, including the WCW Championship (2001). From April 2022 onward, it has been jointly held and defended with the WWE Championship as the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship, but both titles maintain their individual lineages. The inaugural champion was Finn Bálor and the current recognized champion is Roman Reigns.

Lore & Background
The championship was named in honor of WWE's fanbase, referred to as the WWE Universe, and it was established on July 25, 2016, to be the top title of the Raw brand. Its creation came as a result of the reintroduction of the brand split and subsequent draft on July 19, 2016, in which the WWE Championship became exclusive to the SmackDown brand. Matches for the championship headlined several pay-per-view and livestreaming events, including seven consecutive SummerSlams from 2017 to 2023, as well as four WrestleManias (37 Night 2, 38 Night 2, 39 Night 2, and XL Night 2). Following the aftermath of Crown Jewel 2019, the title moved to SmackDown where it remains active, albeit from April 2022 to May 2023, it also appeared on Raw as part of the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship but was still officially SmackDown's championship.

The inaugural champion was crowned at SummerSlam on August 21, 2016, when Finn Bálor defeated Seth Rollins. Bálor vacated the title the next day due to a legitimate shoulder injury. At Crown Jewel on October 31, 2019, 'The Fiend' Bray Wyatt won the title, transferring it to SmackDown. At WrestleMania 38 Night 2 on April 3, 2022, Roman Reigns defeated Brock Lesnar to claim both the WWE Championship and Universal Championship, becoming the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion. Both titles remained independently active. On the June 2, 2023, episode of SmackDown, Triple H presented Reigns with a new singular championship belt, but WWE confirmed the two titles maintained separate lineages. The Universal Championship was officially retired after Cody Rhodes lost the title to John Cena at WrestleMania 41 in April 2025, with Reigns recognized as the final champion.

- The inaugural champion Finn Bálor was the first WWE wrestler to win a world title in his pay-per-view debut since Brock Lesnar won the WWE Championship at SummerSlam 2002 in his debut match.
- The championship belt originally had a red strap to symbolize its exclusivity to the Raw brand, later changed to blue when it moved to SmackDown.
- Bray Wyatt introduced a custom version of the championship for his 'Fiend' character, featuring the character's face on the center plate.
