Albigensian Crusade
A crusade of faith and politics that crushed heresy in the south and forged a kingdom.
The Albigensian Crusade (1209–1229) was a two-decade military campaign initiated by the Catholic Church to eliminate Catharism in Languedoc, southern France. Unlike the grand royal expeditions to the Holy Land, this crusade pitted the northern French nobility against the Occitan lords and the Cathar faithful, culminating in the region's absorption into the French crown.
