In December 2007, Adriano's struggle for form led Inter owner Massimo Moratti to send him on unpaid leave to Brazil. Although he initially trained at São Paulo, his time there was marred by a red card for headbutting Santos' Domingos and disciplinary issues like arriving late to training. He returned to Inter in June 2008 but left permanently by April 2011 after failing to return from international duty. His path then led him back to Flamengo, where he scored two hat-tricks in the 2009–2010 period, including a famous five-goal comeback against Fluminense. In March 2011, he signed with Corinthians, but his recovery was interrupted by an Achilles tendon rupture on April 19. He eventually made his debut for the club on October 9, 2011, scoring the winning goal against Atlético Mineiro just ten days later.
