Corinthians Democracy
A football movement challenging dictatorship through democratic club management.
The Corinthians Democracy was an ideological football movement in early 1980s Brazil, arising within Sport Club Corinthians Paulista. It introduced an innovative club management system and was recognized as a significant action against the military dictatorship. Led by midfielder Sócrates and fullback Wladimir, with club president Waldemar Pires' consent, players voted on all team matters. The movement challenged both authoritarian club management and the broader military government. Its motto was 'Win or lose, but always with democracy.'
