Development and release

Frontier Developments developed and published the game. It was announced by Goldblum in June 2021 during Summer Game Fest. The campaign mode is considered canon with the films, set between Fallen Kingdom and Dominion. Frontier worked with Universal Pictures to align with the studio's franchise plans and received access to Universal's sound effects and theme music.

The game launched on November 9, 2021, for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X and Series S. Pre-orders included three vehicle skins inspired by The Lost World: Jurassic Park. The Deluxe Upgrade Pack added five new species at launch. A Nintendo Switch 2 port titled Complete Edition is scheduled for July 30, 2026. Post-launch support included paid DLC and free updates.

The Early Cretaceous Pack released December 9, 2021, adding four species. The Camp Cretaceous Dinosaur Pack released March 8, 2022, adding one species, one hybrid, and new appearances. The Dominion Biosyn Expansion released June 14, 2022, with a new campaign, four species, and new appearances. The Late Cretaceous Pack released September 15, 2022, adding four species.

The Dominion Malta Expansion released December 8, 2022, with a new campaign, four species, and new appearances. The Feathered Species Pack released March 30, 2023, adding three feathered species and one flying reptile. A free update with decorations inspired by the first movie released June 8, 2023.

Reception

The game received generally favorable reviews on Metacritic. PCGames N rated it 7, stating it improves on its predecessor in clever ways and features the most gorgeous dinosaurs ever in a game, but noted that dealing with disastrous events beyond the player's control remains unfun. Early PC sales were lower than expected due to release alongside other high-profile PC games, while home console sales met expectations. Within two weeks, the game had approximately 500,000 players across all platforms. Frontier expected the game to generate more revenue than its predecessor within its first year, partly due to the upcoming release of Jurassic World Dominion.
