Ifi202
Mouse gene linked to SLE via p202 suppression of p53-mediated apoptosis.
Ifi202 is a mouse gene that encodes the p202 protein, a 52kDa nuclear phosphoprotein belonging to the p200-protein family. Increased expression of Ifi202 mRNA and nuclear localization of p202 in immune cells are associated with the development of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) in certain mouse strains. The gene is located within the Nba2 locus on chromosome 1 of the murine genome, a region linked to SLE susceptibility. p202 suppresses p53-mediated apoptosis, which is hypothesized to contribute to SLE symptoms. Ifi202 is regulated by IL-6 via STAT3 binding to a site in its 5' regulatory region. The human counterpart is IFI16.
