Andrew Agozzino (born January 3, 1991) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey left winger who appeared in parts of eight NHL seasons with the Colorado Avalanche, Pittsburgh Penguins, Anaheim Ducks, Ottawa Senators, San Jose Sharks, and Utah Mammoth. He went undrafted and played his junior hockey with the Niagara IceDogs of the Ontario Hockey League before signing with the Avalanche as a free agent.
Agozzino began his major junior career after being selected 15th overall in the 2007 OHL Priority Draft by the Mississauga IceDogs, who soon relocated to Niagara. In his rookie season (2007–08), he scored 12 goals in 50 games. As an Ontario native, he played for Team Ontario at the 2008 World U-17 Hockey Challenge, scoring five goals in six games to help win gold. The following season, he finished second on the IceDogs with 27 goals and was invited to the St. Louis Blues’ 2009 orientation camp.
Midway through the 2009–10 season, Agozzino was named team captain after Alex Pietrangelo’s departure. He led the IceDogs with 37 goals and 66 points, and at the 2010 OHL All-Star Classic he set a record with four goals, earning Eastern Conference player of the game honors. Despite going undrafted—likely due to his size—he signed an amateur try-out with the Blues’ AHL affiliate, the Peoria Rivermen, making his professional debut on April 9, 2010, and playing two games.
He returned to Niagara for 2010–11, again leading the team with 43 goals in 68 games. Without a pro contract, he came back for his overage season in 2011–12, leading the IceDogs for a third straight year with 40 goals and a career-high 48 assists (88 points), finishing fifth in OHL scoring. After guiding Niagara to the J. Ross Robertson Cup finals, he won the Leo Lalonde Memorial Trophy as the league’s top overage player and the Mickey Renaud Captain’s Trophy as best captain. He left the IceDogs holding franchise records for goals (159), assists (147), points (306), and games played (316).
In his first full professional season (2012–13), Agozzino signed a one-year AHL contract with the Lake Erie Monsters. On opening night, October 12, 2012, he scored his first pro goal—a game-winner—in a 2–1 win over the Oklahoma City Barons. Initially on the checking lines, he quickly became a scoring forward.
