Petey (mascot)

Petey is the golden griffin mascot of Canisius College.

Petey is the costumed golden griffin mascot of the Canisius Golden Griffins, the athletic teams of Canisius College in Buffalo, New York. The nickname Golden Griffins was adopted in 1932, honoring La Salle's ship Le Griffon. An unnamed costumed griffin first appeared in 1967; the mascot was redesigned and named Petey for the 2002–2003 season, referencing St. Peter Canisius. Petey has been called one of the most unusual NCAA mascots and has won or placed highly in several mascot competitions, including winning Busted Halo's Best Catholic Mascot contest in 2013.
