After numerous one-off performances and a few shows with Bellatrix in support of The Blue Room (1999), Coldplay was part of the NME Premier Tour in January 2000 and embarked on a co-headlining run with Terris in March. On 27 April 2000, the band announced their first headlining tour would be coming to the United Kingdom right after supporting Muse at Showbiz Tour.

In Their Own Story

The tour featured distinct opening acts that shifted depending on the leg and location. In October 2000, English band Lowgold supported every show except for the London date. By December, guests included Bettina Motive and the Fantastic Super Foofs. The North American legs saw a rotation of talent: Lily Frost opened in Vancouver, while Powderfinger took the stage for the remaining dates on that leg. For the second continental run, Grandaddy was invited to open. In Europe, specific venues hosted unique lineups, with Mercedes performing at Club Ifor Bach, JJ72 at Ancienne Belgique, and Swan Lee at Vega. These varied pairings highlighted the band's reach across different scenes.
