Reception
The game received favourable reviews according to Metacritic. In Japan, Famitsu gave it a score of 27 out of 40. The PlayStation version was a UK bestseller, replacing WWF SmackDown!. The franchise was compared to Gran Turismo, and Official UK PlayStation Magazine awarded it 10 out of 10. Graphics were praised, and it was described as having an ideal mix of driving, crashing and career progression. It was a runner-up for GameSpot's Best Driving Game award among console games, losing to Test Drive Le Mans.
