Coat of arms of Deva, Romania
Last updated
It was modelled on the arms used during the interwar period. The arms include a shield and a mural crown.
Description and symbolism
The shield is party per fess. The chief gules shows a rider mounted, vested in ancient costume, sustaining a Dacian ensign (a snake with wolf head), all or.
The base azure displays a fortress on a hill argent, with a sun or (formed from a central point with rays) on the dexter and an increscent moon argent on the sinister. The mural crown argent has seven towers. The rider represents King Decebal and advanced Dacian civilisation; the castle stands for the medieval fortress; the sun and moon symbolise the city's turbulent life; the mural crown indicates the city's status as a capital county city.
