Lore & Background
Cór Mhuire was the church choir at St Mary's church in Derrybeg, led by Enya's mother, Baba. Enya sang in this choir as a child, one of her earliest musical experiences outside the family home. The choir was part of the local Catholic parish in the Irish-speaking region of Gweedore. Enya's mother had been a teacher before retiring, and her musical background included leading this choir. The choir provided Enya with early vocal training and exposure to choral singing, which later influenced her signature layered vocal style. Enya's siblings also participated in the choir, as the Brennan family was deeply involved in the musical life of their community. The choir sang at regular church services and likely at special liturgical events throughout the year.
