Andy's widowed mother, who buys him the wrong doll.
Karen Barclay is Andy Barclay's widowed mother in Child's Play (1988), played by Catherine Hicks. She works in the jewellery department of a Chicago department store to support herself and her son. Unable to afford a Good Guy doll for Andy's sixth birthday, she buys one from a peddler her friend Maggie tells her about, not knowing that the serial killer Charles Lee Ray has put his soul into it. After Maggie's death and Andy's committal for observation, Karen finds the doll moving and talking without batteries, and she, Andy and Detective Mike Norris finally destroy Chucky.
