The Deadlines
American horror punk band turned glam rock on Tooth & Nail.
Last updated
They began as a horror punk group before shifting toward glam rock, and were signed to Tooth & Nail Records.
History
Jared Beddingfield played bass for only two shows before Brian Jones joined as bassist. Members used stage names: Sundholm performed as Shaun Coffin, Abbott as Jerry Attrick, and Jones as Spencer Spooks. The band began playing in the Portland, Oregon area and attracted the attention of local label Royal Star Music and Sam Waisanen, who joined as Sammy Lugosi. They recorded their first album in a makeshift basement studio for Royal Star Music.
Brent Salo soon joined on keyboards as The Creature From the Brent Lagoon. Two months later, they recorded their debut album for Tooth & Nail, The Death and Life of..., at Robert Lang Studios, known as the site of Nirvana's last studio album. After recording, Jones left and was replaced by Thomas Demise; Demise was listed as bassist on the album, while Jones received credit as Spencer Spooks in the liner notes. The band then began touring more extensively across the United States.
