Early life

She was named after her great-grandmother Lucy Miranda and has one younger brother. Her father, a former Dallas police officer, played in a country-rock group called Contraband in the 1970s; her parents later became private detectives and worked for lawyers in the Clinton v. Jones case. After the oil crisis caused the family to lose everything, they started a faith-based ministry and sheltered victims of domestic violence, an experience that influenced Lambert's song "Gunpowder & Lead. While in high school, she made her professional singing debut with the Texas Pride Band and fronted the house band at the Reo Palm Isle in Longview.

Music career

At 16, Lambert appeared on the Johnnie High Country Music Revue in Arlington, Texas. After a frustrating Nashville recording session that pushed pop music, she returned to Texas in 2000, learned guitar from her father, and released a self-titled debut album in 2001. In 2002, she performed at Love and War in Texas and opened for Cooder Graw, Kevin Fowler, and Jack Ingram. In 2003, she finished third on Nashville Star, catching the attention of Sony executive Tracy Gershon, and signed with Epic Records on September 15, 2003.

Her first Epic album, Kerosene (2005), debuted at number one on the Top Country Albums chart and went Platinum, producing four Top 40 singles. She toured with Keith Urban, George Strait, Dierks Bentley, and Toby Keith. Her second album, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (2007), included "Gunpowder & Lead," written partly during a concealed-carry handgun class. Revolution (2009) yielded two number-one Hot Country Songs hits.

Four the Record (2011) produced five singles. Platinum (2014) won the Grammy for Best Country Album. The Weight of These Wings (2016) was certified Platinum. Wildcard (2019) also won Best Country Album, and its single "Bluebird" topped the Country Airplay chart.

She collaborated with Jon Randall and Jack Ingram on The Marfa Tapes (2021) and released Palomino in 2022. That year Time listed her among the 100 Most Influential People.

Endorsements and business ventures

In 2009, Lambert became a face of Cotton Inc.'s revived "The Touch, The Feel of Cotton" campaign, which offered a free download of her song "Fabric of My Life. In 2023, she co-authored the cookbook Y’all Eat Yet? Welcome to the Pretty B*tchin’ Kitchen with Holly Gleason, containing 50 recipes and personal anecdotes.

MuttNation Foundation

Lambert founded the MuttNation Foundation in 2009 with her mother, Bev, focusing on rescue animals and shelters. Its initiatives include adoption drives at her concerts and the Grand Ole Opry, donation drives called Fill the Little Red Wagon, emergency disaster relief, annual Cause for the Paws concerts, Mutts Across America grants to shelters in all 50 states, pet transports via Ran's Animal Care Express, and the Mutt March 5k. In 2017, the foundation rescued dozens of animals after Hurricane Harvey. In 2014, she opened Redemption Ranch, a shelter in Tishomingo, Oklahoma. A line of pet products sold at Tractor Supply Company stores supports the foundation. In September 2022, MuttNation partnered with Greater Good Charities to provide 2 million pet meals for families facing economic challenges.
