via Wikipedia: Cao Jiwu · see source
Cao Ji Wu (1662-1722) was a Chinese master of Xinyi, an internal martial art that preceded Xingyi. The most widely accepted view places him as the second person in the art's lineage. He trained under Ji Jike for twelve years, becoming highly skilled. In 1693, under the Kangxi Emperor of the Qing Dynasty, Cao achieved the top score on the highest military exam and was appointed by the emperor as head superintendent of a Shaanxi county. He reportedly died at age 36 from hypothermia while leading troops in flood relief along the Han River in Shaanxi.

Background
Cao Ji Wu's twelve years of study under Ji Jike are said to have given him great martial prowess. In 1693, during the Kangxi Emperor's reign, he passed the highest level military examinations with the highest score of all candidates, leading to his personal appointment by the emperor as head superintendent of a county in Shaanxi Province. He is said to have died of hypothermia at age 36 while directing troops in the relief effort after the flooding of the Han River in Shaanxi.
Other versions mention him returning later in life to continue teaching. It is said that he taught the Dai brothers Dai Long Bang and Dai Linbang, who became the first generation of the Shanxi branch of Xingyi practitioners. However, latest historical research showed evidence that Dai Longbang was not taught by Cao himself, nor did he have a brother named Dai Lingbang versed in martial arts. Dai family xinyiquan (Daishi xinyiquan) was probably created on the basis of Li Zheng's teaching, who inherited his boxing from Cao Jiwu and Ma Xueli through Zhang Zhicheng.
In 1750, Dai Long Bang wrote 'The Six Harmonies Fist preface', in which it is said that 'Ji Jike, also known as Ji Long Feng, born at the end of the Ming Dynasty, discovered the text of Yue Fei, and taught Cao Ji Wu in Qiu Pu.'
