A 2-1 win in the opener, then three straight losses to Baltimore.

The 1983 American League Championship Series matched the Chicago White Sox, who had won the West Division by 20 games with a 99–63 record, against the Baltimore Orioles, East champions by six games at 98–64, from October 5 to 8. The White Sox took Game 1 by 2–1, the first time the Orioles had ever lost a postseason opener, but Baltimore won the next three games to take the series three games to one and went on to beat the Philadelphia Phillies in five games in the 1983 World Series. It was the club's first postseason appearance since the 1959 World Series.

Background

The series is one reason the old St. Louis Browns rivalry, carried on by the Browns' successor franchise in Baltimore, was briefly revived in 1983. As of the most recent seasons it remains the last American League pennant the Orioles have won.
