Lore & Background

The club was established as the Iowa Oaks of the Triple-A American Association in 1969. Iowa took on the Cubs moniker in 1982. They joined the Triple-A Pacific Coast League in 1998 following the dissolution of the American Association after the 1997 season. In conjunction with MLB's reorganization of Minor League Baseball in 2021, the Cubs were shifted to the Triple-A East, which was renamed the International League in 2022. The only league title in franchise history is the 1993 American Association championship. In 2015, the Iowa Cubs finished 76-68, placing second in the PCL American Northern Division and missing the playoffs.

In Their Own Story

The sun dipped behind the ivy-covered outfield walls at Wrigley Field, casting long shadows across the diamond as the seventh inning began. Jake Arrieta stood on the mound, wiping his cap against his jersey, eyes locked on home plate. The crowd hummed with a quiet anticipation that only exists when history feels within reach. He wound up, the motion fluid and practiced, releasing a fastball that snapped through the zone. A sharp crack echoed off the bleachers as the batter swung early. Strike three. The catcher rose from his crouch, signaling another dominant frame completed in a season destined for the record books.
