Gaudette played college hockey for the Northeastern Huskies, where he won the Hobey Baker Award, Hockey East Player of the Year, and was named an AHCA East First-Team All-American. He was selected by the Vancouver Canucks in the fifth round of the 2015 NHL entry draft and made his NHL debut with the team in 2018. After stints with the Canucks, he was traded to the Chicago Blackhawks on April 12, 2021, in exchange for Matthew Highmore. He made his Blackhawks debut on April 19, 2021, and recorded his first point for the team in that game. He played seven games for Chicago to close out the 2020–21 season, scoring one goal and four points. The Blackhawks signed him to a one-year contract extension on July 26, 2021. He played eight games for Chicago in the 2021–22 season before being placed on waivers on November 26, 2021, and claimed by the Ottawa Senators the following day.
