Green was born in Sydney to Australian mother Cahla and American-born father Delmas. His parents met while both were playing semi-professional basketball in Australia. He began playing basketball at age five when his mother started coaching him. As a child, he played for the Hills Hornets and excelled in multiple sports. He holds the world record for 7 year olds in the 500m with a time of 1:29:50. By age 10, he had been selected to represent New South Wales in nine sports. He captained the under-12 NSW Metro state team to a national title. He switched to club basketball for Penrith in 2013. He also played Australian rules football for the Westbrook Bulldogs and was a fan of the Sydney Swans. At age 13, he joined the Greater Western Sydney Giants' academy but quit after his family relocated to Phoenix, Arizona, in November 2014. He committed to Arizona on 4 October 2018. In his college career, he averaged 12.0 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 1.5 steals per game. He was selected 18th overall in the 2020 NBA draft by the Dallas Mavericks. He signed a three-year, $41 million extension with the Mavericks on 23 October 2023. On 6 July 2024, he was traded to the Charlotte Hornets in a six-team sign and trade. He made 68 appearances (67 starts) for Charlotte during the 2024–25 season, averaging 7.4 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.6 assists. On 20 June 2025, he underwent surgery for left shoulder instability. In high school, he transferred to IMG Academy in Florida and became a five-star draft prospect. His professional start came on 23 December 2020 with a two-point debut for the Mavericks against the Phoenix Suns.
