Cethern mac Fintain
Ulster warrior who killed doctors and fought three days after treatment.
Cethern mac Fintain was an Ulster warrior who fought alongside Cúchulainn during the Cattle Raid of Cooley. After Cúchulainn was injured in his fight with Ferdiad, Cethern charged into battle naked on his chariot, carrying only a silver spike. He killed many enemies but took terrible wounds. When doctors told him his injuries were fatal, he killed forty-nine of them, leaving one stunned. The last physician, Fingín, gave him a choice: a full year of healing or three days of fighting strength. Cethern picked the second option. Fingín treated him with a bath of bone marrow and chariot parts, and Cethern returned to battle. He fought for a day and a night until he was surrounded and died. Cethern was also a mentor to Fionn Mac Cumhaill.
