Old Site Discovery

Conquering the mountain within: The start of Madeline's journey at the Old Site.

In the early hours of an unspecified date, Madeline embarks on a solo climbing expedition to Celeste Mountain. Her journey begins not as a crime scene investigation, but as a personal quest to conquer her fears and reach the summit. After a harrowing climb through treacherous weather and psychological trials, she discovers an ancient, abandoned cabin—the 'Old Site'—which serves as the gateway to the mountain's mystical core. This discovery marks the turning point where Madeline confronts her inner demon, 'Badeline,' ultimately leading to self-acceptance rather than a tragic end.

Quick Facts

Main character: Madeline

Lore & Background

Madeline, a young climber suffering from anxiety and depression, travels to Celeste Mountain seeking clarity. Upon reaching the 'Old Site,' she finds an abandoned cabin that triggers a series of surreal events. Here, she encounters Badeline, a manifestation of her self-doubt who attempts to stop her ascent. Contrary to real-world crime narratives, this story is a metaphorical exploration of mental health. The timeline places these events shortly after the game's release in early 2018, with no specific calendar date established for the climb itself; the narrative focuses on the immediate psychological progression rather than a fixed chronology. No external musicians or criminal charges are involved; the conflict remains entirely internal and symbolic.

Reader's Guide

The vehicle was parked on Bluebird Avenue near Burke's home. Surveillance footage from July 29 shows Burke driving it before leaving for his world tour. It was ticketed on September 3 for violating the 72-hour parking ordinance and impounded two days later. On September 8, a tow yard worker called the LAPD due to a foul odor. A deputy medical examiner performed an autopsy on September 10 at the Forensic Science Center, determining the cause of death as "multiple penetrating injuries caused by object(s)." The body weighed just 71 pounds, with her head partially skeletonized and left eye absent. Blue plastic fragments matching the pool were found in her body, and her left ring and pinkie fingers appeared mutilated but unrecovered. Burke was arrested in April 2026 on charges including first-degree murder and continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14.
