Plot

Meredith Davis, divorced from her wealthy husband due to an unread prenuptial agreement, moves in with a friend's family. Inspired by the friend's stepdaughter Lily, she secures a teaching job at Richard Nixon Middle School using a fake résumé and charm, aiming to marry a rich single father. The faculty includes gym teacher Joel, shy teacher Irene, and suspicious faculty president Ginny. Despite incompetence, Meredith imparts life lessons to Lily and her friends.

Production and development

The series premiered April 24, 2014. CBS announced cancellation on May 10, 2014, after three episodes. After the fifth episode aired May 22, 2014, the sixth and seventh episodes were pulled and replaced with reruns of The Millers.

Reception

On Metacritic, the series holds a rating of 51 out of 100, indicating mixed or average reviews from 22 critics. Rotten Tomatoes gave a score of 56% with an average rating of 5.2 out of 10 based on 25 reviews, with the consensus stating Ari Graynor's comedic talents are largely wasted on a show that reboots the movie's shtick without edge. Ben Travers of Indiewire gave the pilot a D, Mitch Salem of ShowBuzzDaily.com advised to change the channel, and Verne Gay of Newsday also gave a D.
