Casualty series 20

The twentieth series of *Casualty* aired on BBC One from 10 September 2005 to 26 August 2006, spanning 48 episodes. Among these were two multi-episode crossovers with *Holby City*, broadcast under the title *Casualty@Holby City*. The series opened with a two-part story, "Holding On", about a collapsing block of flats, shown on consecutive Saturdays (10 and 17 September 2005). Jane Dauncey continued as series producer.

Fifteen cast members from the previous series returned. The emergency department at Holby City Hospital featured Simon MacCorkindale as consultant Harry Harper, Susan Cookson as registrar Maggie Coldwell, Liz Carling as associate specialist Selena Donovan, and Elyes Gabel as senior house officer Guppy Sandhu. Suzanne Packer played nurse practitioner Tess Bateman, with James Redmond as senior staff nurse John "Abs" Denham. Georgina Bouzova and Janine Mellor portrayed staff nurses Ellen Zitek and Kelsey Phillips. The ambulance service included Ian Bleasdale as operational duty manager Josh Griffiths, Martina Laird, Will Thorp, and Matthew Wait as paramedics Comfort Jones, Woody Joyner, and Luke Warren, and Rebekah Gibbs as technician Nina Farr. Luke Bailey continued as healthcare assistant Sam Bateman, and Derek Thompson as clinical manager Charlie Fairhead.

New arrivals included Mark Bonnar as senior staff nurse Bruno Jenkins at the start of the series, and Ben Price as corporate director Nathan Spencer in episode 15. Thorp left in episode 18. Bonnar departed in episode 25, ending a brief stint. Sam Grey joined as receptionist Alice Chantrey in episode 32. Wait exited in episode 39, and Kip Gamblin took over in episode 41 as paramedic Greg Fallon, described as a "man's man who likes to live life to the full, loves nature and is into extreme sports". Gibbs left in the final episode to start a family, stating, "It has been an honour to work with such a professional team in front of and behind the camera".

Episode 18, part of a two-part crossover with *Holby City*, featured *Holby City* regulars Hugh Quarshie as Ric Griffin, Amanda Mealing as Connie Beauchamp, Kelly Adams as Mickie Hendrie, Jaye Jacobs as Donna Jackson, and Sharon D. Clarke as Lola Griffin.
