Nineteenth series of the British medical drama Casualty.
The nineteenth series of *Casualty* ran on BBC One from 11 September 2004 to 20 August 2005. The number of episodes increased again, to 48. Foz Allan served as series producer for the first ten episodes, after which Jane Dauncey took over. The two-part opener, "The Ties That Bind Us," aired on consecutive Saturday and Sunday nights. Two Christmas episodes were crossovers with *Holby City*, titled *Casualty@Holby City*.
The cast includes staff at Holby City Hospital’s emergency department and the Holby Ambulance Service. Thirteen actors from the previous series returned. Simon MacCorkindale played consultant Harry Harper, and Maxwell Caulfield played consultant paediatrician Jim Brodie. Suzanne Packer returned as nurse practitioner Tess Bateman, with Louise Brealey and Leanne Wilson as staff nurses Roxy Bird and Claire Guildford, and James Redmond as mental health nurse Abs Denham. Ian Bleasdale played ambulance service manager Josh Griffiths. Kwame Kwei-Armah, Martina Laird, and Matthew Wait continued as paramedics Fin Newton, Comfort Jones, and Luke Warren, with Rebekah Gibbs as ambulance technician Nina Farr. Sarah Manners returned as receptionist Bex Reynolds. Derek Thompson rejoined midway through the series as Charlie Fairhead after a brief hiatus.
Liz Carling reprised her role as Selena Donovan, now a police surgeon, from episode one. Georgina Bouzova debuted in episode three as staff nurse Ellen Zitek, while Brealey left in the same episode. Luke Bailey arrived in episode five as receptionist Sam Bateman, Tess’s son, and Kwei-Armah departed in episode 11. He had signed for another full series but changed his mind to spend more time with family, stating, “I asked not to die on screen and they respected that.” Elyes Gabel joined in episode eight as senior house officer Guppy Sandhu, and Will Thorp arrived in episode 14 as paramedic Woody Joyner. Caulfield left in episode 17, the first part of the *Casualty@Holby City* crossover, and his character died in a hospital explosion in the second part, which aired on 28 December 2004 as episode 11 of *Holby City* series seven. Susan Cookson joined in episode 22 as specialist registrar Maggie Coldwell; she had previously guest-starred as anaesthetist Julie Day. Manners departed in episode 44, and Janine Mellor debuted in episode 45 as staff nurse Kelsey Phillips. Wilson left at the end of the series.
