The Budmerice mansion was built in 1889 for János Pálffy and Elisabeth Schlippenbach, who married the same year it was completed. After János Pálffy died in 1934, his son Pál inherited the estate, but Pál emigrated in 1945, and the mansion with its park became property of the Czechoslovak republic.
