Background and recording
Albhy Galuten, who co-produced the track, first spotted Teri DeSario while she was performing at a club. Barry Gibb contributed falsetto background vocals and sang the lead on the line "No nothing." The same group of musicians who played on this song also worked on Andy Gibb's album Shadow Dancing: guitarists Joey Murcia and George Terry, keyboardists George Bitzer and Paul Harris, bassist George Perry, and drummer Ron Ziegler. The Boneroo Horns included Peter Graves, Whit Sidener, Ken Faulk, Bill Purse, Neil Bonsanti, and Stan Webb.
Galuten arranged the orchestra, Karl Richardson handled engineering, and the production team consisted of Barry Gibb, Galuten, and Richardson. George Bitzer, a member of the group Network, played on the track, and horn player Bill Purse was married to DeSario. The recording happened around February 1978, the same month Barry Gibb recorded "Grease" for Frankie Valli, which featured Peter Frampton on guitar. When this song appeared on the US charts on July 22, 1978, "Grease" was at number six.
In 2005, a new version with DeSario on vocals was released in the Philippines to promote her concert with Joe Pizzulo, arranged by Frederick Garcia.
