Piledriver (band)
Canadian thrash/speed metal band formed in 1984.
Piledriver began in 1984 as a Canadian thrash/speed metal project. A husband-and-wife team wanted to make the heaviest record possible and brought in vocalist Gord Kirchin. The group cultivated an outrageous image with provocative song titles like "Sex with Satan" and "Alien Rape." Their debut, Metal Inquisition, came out in 1984, followed by Stay Ugly in 1986. Those two albums have sold roughly half a million copies globally. Kirchin later admitted the band was never real—just a studio invention with fictional names and details. In 2004, a new lineup called The Exalted Piledriver formed and released Metal Manifesto in 2008. Kirchin died of lung cancer on September 22, 2022, at age 60.
