Career
Neon Dreams began in 2015 as a four-piece band. The original lineup featured lead vocalist Frank Kadillac (whose birth name is Jahmal Wellington), DJ and vocalist Corey LeRue, guitarist Matt Gats (born Matt Sampson), and drummer Adrian Morris. The members met in high school, where LeRue worked as a DJ while the others came from a rock background. Their first break came in January 2015 when rapper Waka Flocka Flame noticed their remix of his track "Hard In The Paint." On September 4, 2015, they dropped their debut single, "Love Experts." Bell Media stations across Canada premiered it, and other Top-40 stations nationwide soon followed. The song landed on Billboard's CHR Top 40 chart and cracked iTunes' Top 10 electronic chart.
Their debut EP, To You, arrived on August 26, 2016, and racked up more than 15 million streams. It included the gold-certified single "Marching Bands," which featured Kardinal Offishall. In 2017, Neon Dreams won Best New Artist (Dance/Urban/Rhythmic) at the Canadian Radio Music Awards, beating out nominees like Tory Lanez and PartyNextDoor. They also took home the 2017 Allan Slaight JUNO Master Class prize. That same year, Corey LeRue left the band to run Dreaming Out Loud, their Halifax-based independent label, which later signed a distribution imprint deal with Warner Music Canada. LeRue continues to write and produce for the duo. In 2018, Matt Gats also departed to handle label and management duties. The band released their second EP, Wolf, Princess & Me, on September 22, 2017, though it is no longer available.
Now a duo, Neon Dreams put out their debut album, Sweet Dreams till Sunbeams, on July 25, 2019. The nine-track record was inspired by Kadillac's visit to a healing retreat in Sedona, Arizona, where he was encouraged to open up about his difficult childhood. The album featured the radio hit "High School Dropout," which peaked at number 20 on the Canadian Top 40 chart. In 2020, the duo won the JUNO Award for Breakthrough Group of the Year and performed "We Were Kings" during the broadcast. Following that win, they released Love Child Baby Dolphin in 2023, then The Good, The True, And The Beautiful in 2024. In 2025, they issued 10 Years, celebrating a full decade since the group first formed.
