Corton (wine)
Côte de Beaune's only red Grand Cru and Burgundy's largest.
Corton is an Appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC) and Grand Cru vineyard in the Côte de Beaune subregion of Burgundy, producing both red and white wine. It is the Côte de Beaune's only Grand Cru appellation for red wine and the largest Grand Cru of Burgundy. The AOC covers the lower parts of the Corton hill, shared between Aloxe-Corton, Pernand-Vergelesses and Ladoix. Created in 1937, it includes several subordinate climats, whose names are typically indicated alongside Corton, as in Corton Clos du Roi. Around 95 per cent of production is red wine from Pinot noir, with a smaller quantity of white Corton from Chardonnay.
