Jonathan Levinson
Social outcast turned criminal member of the Trio.
Writer/directors David Greenwalt and Marti Noxon stated in DVD commentaries that Strong was the actor they called on whenever they needed a good victim.[1] Both cited his good "victim face" as the reason.[1] Strong commented on himself, "I'm not really very shy, but I certainly can be awkward at times."[2] For the role of Xander, Strong auditioned but Nicholas Brendon was cast instead.[2]
In an interview with the U.K. Buffy the Vampire Slayer magazine, Strong talked about how his character was initially developed.[2] The character eventually moved beyond being used so often as a victim.[1] Strong stated, "I think everyone is sort of like Jonathan," when discussing why the character might resonate with viewers.[2] He added that people either share Jonathan's traits or try to hide those same qualities.[2]
