BTS debuted in June 2013 with the single album 2 Cool 4 Skool, promoted by music videos for 'No More Dream' and 'We Are Bulletproof Pt.2'. Their first EP O!RUL8,2? followed in September 2013 with the single 'N.O' and its video. In 2014, the video for 'Danger' drew attention for its choreography, notably a neck-grab and shoulder move. The Japanese remix of 'Danger' featuring Vietnamese pianist Thanh Bui marked the first appearance of another artist in a BTS music video. In 2015, the band began their BTS Universe storyline with the 'I Need U' video.

BTS's videography includes 72 music videos and 49 video albums, with several achieving world records and domestic and international awards. In Japan, they are the best-selling foreign artist for video releases, with eight concert recordings reaching number-one on Oricon's overall DVD and Blu-ray sales chart as of October 2022. All these recordings received gold certification from the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) for selling over 100,000 copies each. Their first video release to be certified was the 2019 BTS World Tour: Love Yourself ~Japan Edition~ DVD, which also became their first to attain platinum certification in July 2022 for surpassing 250,000 sales. The band has also appeared in commercials for brands such as Puma, Fila, and Samsung.
