Playing career
Djoos made his Elitserien debut with Brynäs IF during the 2011–12 season, appearing in one game. By the 2013–14 season, at age 19, he had become a regular SHL player for Brynäs. He signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Washington Capitals on 16 May 2014. Djoos made the Capitals' opening night roster for the 2017–18 season. In his NHL debut on 11 October 2017, he scored his first NHL goal and first NHL assist against the Pittsburgh Penguins, becoming the first defenceman in Capitals history to record two points in his NHL debut. During the 2019–20 season, Djoos did not make the Capitals' opening night roster; he was placed on waivers, cleared, and assigned to the AHL's Hershey Bears. In a top-pairing role with Hershey, he recorded 32 points in 42 games and appeared in two scoreless games with the Capitals. On 24 February 2020, at the NHL trade deadline, the Capitals traded Djoos to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for Daniel Sprong. Djoos signed a one-year extension with the Ducks on 6 May 2020. Before the 2020–21 season, on 8 January 2021, the Ducks placed him on waivers after training camp; the next day, he was claimed by the Detroit Red Wings. He remained on the Red Wings roster for the season, posting 2 goals and 11 points in 36 regular season games. As an impending free agent, Djoos left the NHL on 12 May 2021, signing a two-year deal with EV Zug of the Swiss National League through the 2022–23 season. On 13 March 2023, he signed a two-year contract with Lausanne HC of the NL. Djoos and Lausanne agreed to terminate the contract in the 2024 off-season, allowing him to sign a five-year contract with his former club, Brynäs of the SHL.
