Crossfire (British TV series)

Crossfire is a British thriller series that aired in 2022. It was created and written by Louise Doughty, marking her first original television series. The story centers on a British family who become trapped in an armed attack at a holiday resort in Spain. The show was produced by Dancing Ledge Productions and Buddy Club Productions, made for the BBC with additional involvement from RTVE. The cast includes Keeley Hawes, Josette Simon, and Anneika Rose. The three episodes were broadcast on BBC One on 20, 21, and 22 September 2022.

The plot follows Jo, who takes her family to the Hotel Barranco Tropical in the Canary Islands while her marriage is falling apart. Their vacation turns into a fight for survival when gunmen storm the hotel.

The main hotel guests are Jo Cross (Keeley Hawes), a security consultant and former police officer; her husband Jason Cross (Lee Ingleby), a social worker; Jason’s brother Ben Cross (Daniel Ryan), a nurse; Ben’s wife Dr. Miriam Alderton (Josette Simon), a GP; Chinar Doshi (Vikash Bhai), a businessman; his wife Abhilasa ‘Abhi’ Doshi (Anneika Rose); hotel guest Aida Ballmann; Jo and Jason’s son Adam Cross (Noah Leggott); Jo’s daughter from her first marriage Amara (Shalisha James-Davis); and the Doshi children Gatik (Zakiy Jogi), Jaypal (Arjun Subramaniam), and Sunil (Viaan Mayur).

Hotel staff include concierge and security manager Mateo Rodrigues (Hugo Silva); manager Bea Rodrigues (Alba Brunet); waitress Pilar (Marta Fuenar), Bea’s cousin; waiter Iker (Guillermo Campra); Eusebio (Christian Sánchez); and kitchen staff member Marta (Gladys Balaguer).

Other characters include lead shooter Gerardo (Pol Toro) and his younger brother Flavio (Pol Sanuy), as well as police officer Paul (Ariyon Bakare), Jo’s ex-husband and Amara’s father.

The series received mixed to negative reviews. Lucy Mangan of *The Guardian* gave the first episode two stars out of five, praising the opening but calling it an okay watch for those who enjoy guessing who will die next. Anita Singh in *The Telegraph* also gave two stars, comparing it to a soap opera. Nick Hilton of *The Independent* gave the first episode two stars, criticizing the writing but praising Hawes. James Jackson of *The Times* gave it three stars.
