Lore & Background

The series follows Becky Green, a lonely twentysomething who becomes obsessed with the suicide of her estranged childhood friend Chloe. Assuming a new identity as Sasha, she engineers meetings with Chloe's best friend Livia and infiltrates Chloe's close-knit group of friends. Through her alter-ego, Becky leads a more exciting life while investigating why Chloe died. Flashbacks reveal that Becky had two missed calls from Chloe minutes before her death. As Sasha, Becky uncovers Chloe's clandestine activities hidden from her husband and friends. She begins an affair with Chloe's widowed husband Elliot, which the group disapproves of. Becky continues investigating, questioning each group member to determine if Chloe was trying to escape from Elliot, who controlled her medication and finances. On the night of a planned escape, the person meant to help Chloe did not appear; Chloe went to her parents' house, her mother informed Elliot, and Chloe died while running from him. Becky suspects Elliot may have pushed her. Livia eventually exposes Becky, and the group abandons her. Becky records Elliot's angry outburst and posts it on Instagram from Chloe's account. In a final meeting, Livia and Becky exchange phone numbers.
