Curfew (2024 TV series)

A murder investigation challenges a society with a male curfew.

Last updated

The series is set in a society where men live under a strict nightly curfew enforced by ankle tags, and follows a police officer investigating a woman's murder during curfew hours.[1]

Making and release

Vertigo Films produced the series in association with Evolutionary Films, with Federation Studios distributing.[2] Vertigo Films' executive producers for the project were Allan Niblo, Jane Moore, and Nathalie Peter-Contesse.[2] The television series was based on Jayne Cowie's 2022 novel "After Dark."[2] Principal photography started in early 2024 and took place in London.[3]

What the cited sources add

The Deadline article states that the curfew runs from 7PM to 7AM every night, with men's movements tracked by an ankle tag.[1] Producer Nathalie Peter-Contesse called the show "a provocative and thrilling show that aims to contribute to the important conversation around violence against women."[1] The Irish Times review described the series as "a passable shoestring thriller hobbled by a lot of weird gender politics."[4] The Guardian review noted that the series does not answer questions such as how the curfew stops violence at home.[5]

According to The Guardian, although screen adaptations have the potential to expand beyond their source material, "Curfew has wasted this opportunity."[5]
