Making and release

A companion book titled The Mary Whitehouse Experience Encyclopedia was released in 1991, containing references to sketches and new material.[2] On 10 March 1989, BBC Radio 1 aired a pilot episode; a 13‑episode series then commenced on 7 April that year, with Bill Dare creating the show's format.[3] The programme's initial broadcast time was Friday at midnight.[4] Concerned that Mary Whitehouse might sue over the use of her name, the BBC briefly considered calling the programme The William Rees‑Mogg Experience instead.[5]

In 2003, BBC 7 repeated most episodes from the first three radio series.[6] Owing to rights restrictions, further repeats were blocked, though occasional single broadcasts happened in the Comedy Controller slot.[6]

What the cited sources add

The epguides.com guide lists the show as having 44 episodes on BBC Radio 1, each 30 minutes long, aired from March 1989 to December 1990.[7] The guide credits Armando Iannucci as the producer of the series.[7] It also notes that Jo Brand appeared in the cast, and Mark Thomas appeared in series 1-3.[7]
